Welcome
creatives & makers

Let’s unfurl your inner whisper to share your creative magic with the world

Connecting head, heart & hands through the joyful & simple act of Slow Stitching, improv quilting, mindful making & conscious creativity.

All it takes is a piece of cloth, a length of thread and needle. Create space in your day to {re}connect with your quiet self.

A moment in your day, some fabric in your hand & quiet slow breathing

mindful thoughts for makers

What actually is slow stitching and mindful making?

The act of slow stitching is more a process than a doing. It’s about being where you are. Using beautiful fabrics - often scraps - to create treasured pieces. But really it’s about creating time in your day and life to slow down, to remember to breathe and step away from the overwhelm of life.

As Annie Dillard says
“how we spend our days is how we spend our lives.”

LIVE ONLIVE ZOOM COURSE

make a zippered gusset purse

Join me in this LIVE online course!

You’ll learn how to slow stitch your own beautiful & practical work of textile art. And then how to insert a zip with hand sewing.

If you’ve been a little scared of sewing zips, then this is the perfect course for you. We’ll do it together, step-by-step so you build up the confidence to continue inserting your own zips.

Over two live zoom sessions you’ll create the fabric for your purse then sew your zip in, and show off your new gusset pouch.

We’ll work with a combination of slow stitching, improv quilting piecing and embroidery for our fabric, totally hand stitched from start to finish using your special fabric scraps.

Hi, I’m Ellie

Lover of special fabrics, cups of tea & connecting with other creatives. I’m here to help you slip into a quiet moment and find a way to take this into everyday life.

I’m a textile artist based in Northern NSW, Australia. My home studio is settled in the forest, and I love to be able to share this special place, where the birds sing, each day with you.

My online courses are like sitting beside me in my studio. You can learn how to hand stitch a quilt using improvisational techniques, create little drawstring and treasure bags or a zippered purse for carrying treasures.

I’m always adding new courses and mini-tutorials, and am excited to see what you create. Let’s put the kettle on, pour a cup of tea (green tea for me) or a glass of wine (plum wine is my preference) and share in this beautiful creative journey together.

I share tutorials about hand stitching, improv quilting and ways to tap into your own innate creativity.
In this Pinterest-perfect world, I love to embrace my own creative mess and to guide you to discover your own way of expressing your artistic self.
Because I believe that everyone is an artist, and we can discover it through the gentle art of handcrafts.

Ready to learn how to turn your special fabric into something beautiful?

Working in your own way, without following someone else’s rules, you can create a treasure to keep your loved ones warm. Improvisational quilting allows you to follow your heart, to do things your way and make textile art for hugging.

“I have been dipping in and out of this course - thank you. Ellie it is such a wonderful resource to have! Love the way you can bring together the many skills that are gathered along the way and the wonderful meditative feeling that comes from doing my daily stitching - so healing! Thank you!”
