a making & doing list

I have a lot of little and big-ish projects happening at the moment. Is it silly to share with you, as well as in my paper diary? I thought maybe good to put it down, and then I can have the satisfaction of coming back to look on it and see how it’s going.

I wish I wasn’t, but I’m actually externally motivated. Are you?

Things I’m currently working on:

  • Finishing my blue quilted Nova coat (part on of the making here). I have to give it another good press, fold up the hem and slip stitch it, then plan on quilting it. My Stitch Circle people suggested red stitching, but also that I should do a test patch on some scrap fabric. A good idea! I’m not sure if red will overwhelm it too much, and if I should do it in a more subtle blue.

  • Cut paper pattern and fabric for this dress. I need to get it sewn up this week. I can do that, I know it. I’m using the same fabric as the coat as I have quite a lot, and some blue stripe that I bought last week. And then once I’ve done this then I have some Nani Iro double gauze that I’ll make one out of.

  • Time how long it takes me to actually stitch the zippered purse. I’m running the first of two live online courses for this on Saturday, and honestly I’ve never actually timed how long it takes. Of course, it’s slow stitched so that really does make a difference depending on how we all work. I’m planning on 1.5 hours for each session, and that gives people time in-between to keep working as needed. This will include chatting time as well. (You can still sign up to join in the sessions with us and make a purse).

  • I want to make a large tote bag for carrying all the things I keep bringing into the studio then back home again each day - my computer, my lunch and water bottle, jumper, etc etc. I have this fabulous linen tablecloth with the most delightful embroidery. There’s this sweet little female and male on each corner (so, two of each). And I plan on using this floral tea towel as the lining. It’s from Julie Patterson of Cloth. I’ve loved loved loved her work for a million years, and don’t want to use this as an actual tea towel. I think this will be the perfect use for it.

  • Today I am hoping I’ll have the time to make up a few fabric packs for express posting for the zippered course. I have five zips and whole lot of lovely fabric. Which also means writing a newsletter to let you know about them.

  • Which also means… getting off this blog post published and getting off this computer.

**Update - the Zippered Gusset purse is now available as an on-demand courses. You can check it out here, and start stitching straight away.
