How do I join or access the community?

The community is entirely online, hosted on a special ‘community’ sharing site that is NOT social media. Once you join for the membership, you’ll receive an email with a link to create an account and join the community.

The creative video courses are hosted on my online teaching site (which unfortunately is on a different site to the community page - neither of them offer bot options). If you’re already a student in any of my online classes you’ll have an account already, otherwise you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to access.

You can always contact me.

What about if I’m in a different time zone to you?

This is an online community space and our members come from all around the world - Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, USA, Asia, Europe…

Our zoom calls are scheduled at different times, as best as I can, to make sure that as many of you as possible can join in. I live in Australia, so base the calls around days and hours that work with my family. I also work calls around my guests’ time frames, which depends on what country they’re from.

All calls are recorded so you can watch at your own time. You’ll have access to previous month’s calls, as well, in our community page.

What about if I’m already an advanced stitcher / sewist?

We’d love to have you in our community - there are beginners who will absolutely value your experience. The wisdom keepers in our communities are important and vital, and passing on your knowledge is something so special; we thank you for being part of our community.

Also, I fully believe that we are all learning every day - and in my personal experience there are valuable lessons to be learned from those around us; sometimes the ‘beginners’ have a very new way of understanding things we thought we know. Connecting with others via zoom is also nourishing for you, regardless of your experience or skills.

I’ve had many experienced students in my in-person and online workshops who learn new things. I truly believe that learning things with new eyes is a great way to shift our perceptions of how we work, what we create and re-look at traditional skills.

If I’m a beginner can I still join?

Yes please, do join us! This community is very supportive and offers insightful realistic advice, tips and ideas for beginners to start on. Our members range from very beginners (who have never stitched before) right through to advanced textile artists.

The projects and how-tos that I share are perfect for beginners, with step-by-step videos or instructions, and lots of jumping off ideas to spark your own imagination.

What materials do I need? Do I need to buy anything special?

I hope that you’ll be able to use what you already have. Every textile person I know has more fabric, notions & supplies than they’ll ever use!

Mostly you’ll need any fabric - scraps, lovely collections, clothing, linens - some thread & needles. My aim is for this to be a space where you can use what you have.

But if you happen to not have a lot of supplies please email me for specifics, so I can help you out. Many of our members swap and share their supplies as well.
