simple ways to create slow

I’m starting to share on my Instagram, so simple ideas of how to create slow. Life has been big and tricky and overwhelming for me this past year; and I want to give myself some ways to settle and quiet. And also to create a little ritual and rhythm. So, each week I plan on sharing some ways that I think we can all make / create / fit slow into our days.

Simple ways to create slow this week:

  1. Start your day without checking your device. Give your mind space to have it’s own quiet thoughts before letting the world in.

  2. Write your daily to-do list, then take one thing off! Let’s stop this feeling that we need to keep doing more all the time. Give yourself some gentle space.

  3. Chose one project this week that you love. Do it everyday - 10 minutes everyday. It might be reading, tending your garden, writing your book / journal, stitching, painting……

  4. Stop listening to all the noise outside and around you. Turn off your podcasts, audio books, music. Listen to your heartbeat, your breath, the quiet spaces in the world around you.

  5. Rest. Rest. Rest. I will write that as many times as I need to. This is aligned with the take one thing off your list. It’s important, in this hustle culture we live in, to make sure that we’re resting more than we think we might need. Sleep is the most important. Drinking water as well. Rest.

I do truly believe that we can make our work, our lives, our family, our hobbies and obligations work better for us. That we can create slow in the days and the ways that we do things. But we need to be intentional about it. We need to look and notice how we do things. The life examined and all that.

I’d love you to share some ways you notice and actively create slow in the every-day-ness of your life.
