‘I like your curves’ quilt

I was gifted this beautiful fabric from DogStar last month, to play with and create something. It’s so inspiring. Due to Christmas and holidays it’s taken me a little while to get started on creating with it. And perhaps also the ‘wanting to make it wonderful’ aspect too. I have this absolutely wonderful dress in the same fabric, so it really is fun to be cutting up and stitching with it too.

The fabric is an artwork by a favourite artist of mine. Brisbane (local-ish to me) artist Tiel Seivl-Keevers. Her work is landscape-ish, but also dreamlike. Moody; clouds and patches of sand, fields of blowing wild flowers. Soft and subtle rivers. Imaginations drifting in and out.

The pieces I was given are offcuts from the cutting process, so they are in unusual shapes; which I like the idea of. Using what’s available. I didn’t want to mess around or cut off more than necessary, so I’ve used the shapes that they came with and went with the flow of that. Also, inspired by Tiel’s mountain greens, clouds over ocean whites, purples, greys - in my mind this is a mountain scape looking over the ocean, with a stormy setting sun.

Of course, in your mind it’s possibly a whole lot different. Anyway. Here’s the curvy quilt. So far it’s actually only one block piece. I was originally going to use it as the ‘quilt-a-week’ project and finish it at this size, but there seems too much possibility in it to become something bigger. I must always listen to the fabric…
